Bowie is the largest city in Prince George's County. Old Town Bowie began as a railroad junction in the 1800s, but most of the city dates to the 1960s, when Levitt and Sons started building Belair at Bowie on land that had been part of the Belair estate. Those neighborhoods are full of Cape Cods, ranch houses and colonials built to a handful of standard plans.
Because so many Belair houses share the same floor plans, the same updates come up again and again: opening a closed kitchen, redoing an original hall bathroom, and adding living space downstairs. Newer areas such as Fairwood and Pointer Ridge were built much later and usually need kitchen and basement work that starts from builder finishes rather than sixty year old materials.
